The surface energy of water-based ink is higher than that of solvent based ink, so the substrate must also have a higher surface dyne value. So, in the field of printing, in order to make the printing ink better adhere to the substrate surface, the dyne value of the substrate must be 10 dynes higher than that of all inks.


So when water-based ink is printed on film, metal foil and some paper, it should be treated twice before printing. By using corona device in printing machine, the processing energy level of the film can be extended to the original energy level or higher.


Principle of corona treatment


Corona treatment can rearrange the molecular structure of the surface of the self-adhesive and produce more polar parts, which is conducive to adhesion of foreign matters.


Compared with the untreated film, the surface of the treated film is obviously uneven and rough, and the point impact strength can be enhanced with the increase of voltage and current. The surface becomes roughened and the ionomer in polar solvent enters the surface of the printed body by electric shock and penetration, which destroys its molecular structure, and then oxidizes and polarizes the surface molecules to be treated, and the ion electric shock erodes the surface, so as to increase the adhesion ability of the substrate surface.
